An illustration from Crowdin's own definition: an app with 5,000 source words, as its language count grows, at the cheapest Crowdin plan and hosted-words add-on that holds it. anylocale charges per project, so the line stays flat.

Both billed yearly, shown per month. Crowdin counts hosted words: the words to translate multiplied by the number of target languages, across every project in the account. Crowdin Free also holds 60,000 hosted words, for public projects and 1 private project, with its translations donated to Crowdin's translation memory. Crowdin's figures are from its pricing page on November 4, 2026.
Where anylocale is different.
A price that ignores your language list
Crowdin multiplies your words by every target language and charges for the total past each plan's allowance. anylocale charges per project: the fortieth language costs what the second did, and a longer app costs nothing extra.
Drafts that know the key
AI drafts follow your glossary, exact translation-memory matches, each key's description and its length limit. A term marked do-not-translate is masked before the model sees it.
Checked on every save
Five checks run on every save: placeholders, length, terms, consistency and missing strings. Only strings a person has verified go out over the air.
One catalog for iOS and Android
Keys are shared by both apps unless you tag them for one. .xcstrings, .strings with .stringsdict, and strings.xml round-trip with plurals and placeholders intact.
Every formatMade for CI and coding agents
A CLI, an HTTP API and an MCP server for Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor or Codex, all on every plan.
The MCP serverTranslators can stay in Excel
Export one language as CSV, hand it over, and import the result. Rows are matched by key and plural category.
The CSV guide
Where Crowdin is the better fit.
Crowdin is a far larger platform. If you need any of this, it's worth what it costs.
- 700+ apps and integrations, against a CLI, an API and an MCP server here.
- A marketplace of translation vendors and Crowdin Language Services, for ordering human translation from inside the project.
- Crowdsourcing and open-source programs, with unlimited collaborators on public projects.
- An in-context editor on Team and above, so translators see the string on the screen it belongs to.
- An Enterprise tier with SSO, SCIM and audit logs.
Moving over from Crowdin.
Your app's files carry the keys, every language, plurals and any descriptions kept as comments.
Step 1: Download your files from Crowdin
Export the project in the format your app ships: an .xcstrings catalog, .lproj folders with .strings and .stringsdict, or Android values folders with strings.xml. Include every language.
Step 2: Drop them into anylocale
Create a project and drop the catalog or the folder onto the import. Every language comes across in one step, with plurals and placeholders intact.
Step 3: Let the AI fill the gaps
Coverage shows what each language still lacks. AI drafts the missing strings against your glossary, for a person on your team to verify.
Questions
- How much does anylocale cost compared with Crowdin?
- anylocale Starter is $29/month, or $24/month billed yearly, for one project with no word or language cap. Crowdin Pro is $59/month, or $50/month billed yearly, for 60,000 hosted words; Crowdin Team is $179/month, or $150/month billed yearly, for 100,000. Crowdin's figures are from its pricing page on November 4, 2026.Pricing
- What is a hosted word?
- Crowdin counts hosted words: the words to translate multiplied by the number of target languages, across every project in the account. Crowdin's own example is 500 words in 10 languages, which counts as 5,000 hosted words. anylocale has no equivalent: a project holds as many keys and languages as you give it.
- Can I import my Crowdin project?
- Yes, through your app's files: export from Crowdin as an .xcstrings catalog, .lproj folders or Android values folders, drop them onto the import, and every language comes across. A direct import from a Crowdin project is planned, not shipped.
- Does anylocale have a glossary and translation memory?
- Both, on every plan, as Crowdin has on every plan including Free. The translation memory here reuses exact matches from the same project; similar-text matching isn't there yet. AI drafts use the glossary, those matches and each key's length limit.
- Which file formats does it read and write?
- .xcstrings, .strings and .stringsdict for iOS, strings.xml for Android, and JSON, next-intl messages and CSV, on every plan.Integrations
- Is anylocale only for mobile apps?
- It's built around app strings. JSON and next-intl cover web apps too, but it has no crowdsourcing, no vendor marketplace and no in-context editor, which Crowdin does.
- Who decides what ships?
- A person on your team. AI drafts are stored unverified, five checks run on every save, and only strings someone has marked verified are served over the air.
